“The location of the house is kind of next to the busy street here but the environment still quiet. Therefore, you don’t have a lot of traffic here because the traffic here is really loud, so you don’t hear anything from the traffic and it’s really nice ”
What’s your name and where are you from?
My name is Jet and I’m from Holland.
Why did you come to Vietnam?
I came here because I have an internship in Vietnam.
Is it difficult to find a(n) internship/job in HCMC?
For me, it’s not really difficult because I applied to an international organization which is located in Vietnam and also in Holland and I took the internship.
What do you like the most in Vietnam? Why?
I like the people and the culture here. And also all the surrounding like the nature, the country is really beautiful and it’s so different from the Europe. Therefore, I like this country.
How long have you stayed here and when will you decide to come back to your country?
I’ve stayed here since January 15th, so it’s almost 2 months and I’ve planned to go home on June after finish an internship here and go back to complete my study.
Do you think it is difficult to find a place to live in HCMC?
I don’t think it’s really difficult to find a place here but it’s really difficult to find a good place i guess. Because I also have a friend and she’s living in another part of HCMC. She found the place that she really doesn’t like it at all and searched a lots in the internet but still not find the good place yet. For me, I just found this house and I’m really glad because I really like it.
Where do you live right now in Saigon? What do you think about your neighborhood?
Well, I live in Binh Thanh District and next to the Vinhome. About the neighborhood, I really love them because they are so nice, moreover, there are a lot of expats living there. The other things I like is the environment around the house. The location of the house is kind of next to the busy street here but the environment still quiet. Therefore, you don’t have a lot of traffic here because the traffic here is really loud, so you don’t hear anything from the traffic and it’s really nice.
Have you ever experienced any agency like this during your trip? How was your experience with GlobeTrottr?
I’ve no experience about any agency like this before. And my experience with GlobeTrottr is really good because they always help you, response really fast and they also do a lots for you when you ask for it. And I think it’s also useful because they can communicate with internationals and help us because it’s really difficult to adapt in a city by yourself when you don’t know anyone can help you when you need. So yeah..for me, it’s a really good experience.
Can you tell us a little story about what has happened to you during your trip?
I came here and had a culture shock at the beginning because I came from Holland and everything is completely different here. So yeah, in the first time here, my other colleagues welcomed me at the airport and took me home. Then I met my other housemates very fast and they are really nice, they showed me around the neighborhood and showed me many places to go in HCMC. Then, I also had a little trip around HCMC in my scooter; so it’s really nice. Moreover, sometimes, there is many festival on the weekend and I just go there with my friends. Mostly, during the weekdays, I work a lots from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. so I usually go out for dinner with my housemates or my neighborhoods; sometimes we go for a drink. It’s really nice. Furthermore, we always plan some trips to do something else or to go somewhere out of HCMC on weekend because (haha) sometimes this city is kind of overwhelm for me.
According to you, on which points can we improve?
I haven’t experienced any trouble yet. So that’s quite hard question because for me, everything is going really good since I’ve lived here.
Can you describe Vietnam in one word?
I think for me it’s IMPRESSIVE.
What is the biggest culture shock for you?
Actually, I don’t have much culture shock because I have researched about Vietnam before coming here. And I think I adapt really fast because I really like the culture here especially the food. The food here is so amazing (haha).
What will be your next destination?
Ah. Before going to home and I want to travel many places in Vietnam first and probably by my scooter (haha). Because my brother also did that one year ago, he drove from HCMC and he went to the north then sold his bike and took a plan to other countries around Asia. For the next destination, I still not have any plan yet but first, I will travel around.
