“I have been travelling in the North and South also, so I really like the landscapes which is cool. I just living here for 5 months, I would like to travel as much as I can. It is really nice to come and live here, it’s really good to have new experience”

What is your name and where are you from?

Hello, my name is Jade and I’m from France.

Why did you come to Vietnam?

I came here for the internship for 5 months.

Is it difficult to find an internship in Vietnam in general? How did you do that?

I think it is difficult for me because I want to find an internship that related to the field I want. But I think I got lucky because I found my internship is quite fast. The company where I’m working is a French company and it has a subsidiary in Vietnam so I knew that and asked for working in the subsidiary here, then took a flight to Vietnam (smile).

What do you like the most in Vietnam? Why?

Um…I like many things here (smile). Because I have been travelling in the North and South also, so I really like the landscapes which is cool. I went to the South during Tet holiday, then I took 1  week off to travel the North and I will travel the Central after I finish my internship. Because I just living here for 5 months, I would like to travel as much as I can. Other things that I like here is the food, it’s also very good and the people are very nice and friendly.

How long have you stayed here and when will you decide to come back to your country?

I have been stayed here for around 4 months. And I will leave Vietnam on 6th of July. I will finish my internship in around the middle of June, then take two weeks to travel around Vietnam before going back to France.

Do you think it is difficult to find a place to live in HCMC?

For me, it was not too difficult because I checked for a place before arriving here. And the GlobeTrottr’s website is very easy to find so I sent an email to ask about a place. When the first day I arrived here, I visited the house and took one room.

Where do you live right now in Saigon? What do you think about your neighborhood?

So I live in Nguyen Huu Canh Street, in Binh Thanh District. And I was the first person in the house so in the beginning, I was very lonely. However, I met a neighborhood from another GlobeTrottr’s house which is in the same street of mine. Then we became friend, so it’s really nice to have them around and now there are some people in my house so we now have a lot of friends. And I really like  the neighborhood, because everything is so close around here, there is a gas station, shops, coffee shops street foods. Moreover, the street here is very quiet compare to the big street there.

Can you describe Vietnam in one word?

I would like to say AMAZING. Because this is the first word came into my mind when I heard this question (smile). The landscapes is amazing, everything is so new and I discovered so many things.

Have you ever been to other Asia countries before coming to Vietnam?

(Smile) No, not yet.

Do you have any plan to travel around Asia?

Yeah. I would like to. I’m thinking, I will travel after my internship but first, I want to come back to France with my family, my friends and then I will travel.

What is the biggest culture shock for you?

My parents came to Vietnam for about 25 years ago before I was born, and they really love it so always talk about Vietnam to me. Moreover, we also eat a lot of Asian foods in France because my parent love it (smile). There are some things that very new and shock me but also things that I already knew.

And the biggest culture shock for me here is the traffic. So many bikes in the road and it seems to be no driving rule. When I arrived from the airport and got into a car, there was so crazy in the car because I was afraid that he will hit somebody who is on the scooter out there because everyone is driving so close.

What will be your next destination?

I do not know yet where I will go. But first, I will come back to France with my family, then finish my study; I will have a plan later.

Do you have any words for other expats who will come to Vietnam in the future?

I think it is really nice to come and live here, it’s really good to have new experience. I think there are many people afraid of coming here because of traffic or food or something new to them; but it would be okay, you should try and experience new thing. Then, you can adapt the new environment here. To sum up, you just have to try something new.
