Interview Ernesto

#GlobeTrottrProfile

I prefer the warm weather and rainy season. Moreover, the other things is the landscapes, the views in Vietnam are amazing. There are many nice places here to visit. I like it. And also the food here is good. Moreover, here you can see really nice sun set which is really beautiful with nice color. And in every morning, the life and everything in the city is colorful.

What’s your name and where are you from?

My name is Ernesto and I’m from Spain.

Why did you come to Vietnam?

I came here to do an internship.

Is it difficult to find a(n) intership/job in HCMC?

Actually, I found my internship in Spain from the university where i studied. They told me there were some positions in a Spanish company in Ho Chi Minh and then I said “Yes”. Then I came here (smile).

What do you like the most in Vietnam? Why?

In Vietnam? What I like the most? Uhm…I don’t know, probably the weather. One of the thing is the weather, right now in Europe, the weather would be very cold but here is very warm which is amazing during Christmas, January and February (smile). I prefer the warm weather and rainy season. Moreover, the other things is the landscapes, the views in Vietnam are amazing. There are many nice places here to visit. I like it. And also the food here is good.

How long have you stayed here and when will you decide to come back to your country?

I’ve been here for 6 months and just have one more month left here, then I will go. But I still not know yet if I will come back to my country or if I will stay and travel around Asia.

Do you think it is difficult to find a place to live in HCMC?

For me, I didn’t prepare anything before coming here. And I came here without any place to live then I found this house, where am I living now, in one day that because one friend introduce me. Basically, I arrived here at 12pm and for the next morning, I started to looking for a house from 6am to 5pm i guess. Then there was a guy who’s working for GlobeTrottr showed me the house and then I said “Yes”; just in one day (Haha). It’s very easy, you just need to use Facebook and know GlobeTrottr and can find a house.

Where do you live right now in Saigon? What do you think about your neighborhood?

I live in Bui Huu Nghia Street, Binh Thanh District. I think my neighborhood is one of the most cool things that I found in Saigon. Because the area is very nice, a lot of Vietnamese people living there so you don’t feel like in Thao Dien. Here you are feel like a real Vietnam. So it’s beautiful and this is one of the best thing that I have here. My neighborhoods living around are so nice and friendly, they don’t speak English but whenever they see me, they smile and I don’t speak Vietnam I also smile.

Can you tell us a little story about what has happened to you during your trip?

So, one night, we were in Dalat, me with other few friends and we rented 3 motorbikes. We went up to a mountain and when the night came, it was so funny because it was completely dark and no moon; moreover, the motorbike’s light didn’t work well. So we had to do 20 km with the lamp in our head. I don’t know why when we rent, the light still work well. When we came back to the rental place, we told him about the problem of the bike; he was so upset then he took one of our passport and he broke a little part of our passport so it was crazy.

I also have another story that has happened to me everyday (haha). That is when I try to go to the market and buy something, it’s not what I want to buy. If I buy fruits, then it’s okay. But if I buy meat, I always get what I don’t know. Almost the food I bought, I always give it to my friends because I don’t know what it is. Therefore, going to the supermarket is crazy for me (haha).

Can you describe Vietnam in one word?

Uhm..One word. It has to be a good word (haha). Maybe COLORFUL. Because here you can see really nice sun set which is really beautiful with nice color. And in every morning, the life and everything in the city is colorful not like in Europe which are some places just has 1 color. Here in every meter, people selling everything like meat, fruit, vegetable, etc…with the color red, green, yellow, orange, etc. so you also can see a lot of colors in one street. Furthermore, when you go out of the city, it’s also the same; you can see the rice field or many other fields with green color, the landscape,…everything here is nice.

What is the biggest culture shock for you?

Ah..maybe. Actually there were some culture shocks for me but I think now I became a little bit Vietnamese (haha) so let’s me think..Ah, maybe the way people driving motorbike here; it’s crazy here (haha). And another thing is when people here finish their drink and they just throw the cup directly to the road instead of the bin. I don’t know why people behave like that but they should put it on the bin.

What will be your next destination?

I don’t know yet. Still not have any plan. I’m thinking if I come back to Europe or stay here to travel a little bit.
