“I would say like a real culture shock but it’s in the good way like discovery something very great”
What’s your name and where are you from?
My name is Antonin Remy and I’m from France, the best place to be in the world.
Why do you come to Vietnam?
I come to Vietnam to do the internship in GlobeTrottr and learn more about the culture because it’s my childhood dream, I would say.
What make you like the best in Vietnam?
So far, I like people because people here way nicer than back in France, so I like it very much and the food of course, the food is just very amazing; we have good food back in the home town but here is very nice also. So I like food and people here.
How long have you stay here and when will you decide to come back to your country?
I’ve been here like 2 months and I don’t know if I’m going to be go back in France for another year because right after Vietnam, I’m going to go Poland and then after Poland hopefully to UK or something like this.
Do you think is it difficult to find a place to live in Ho Chi Minh City?
Wouldn’t say difficult but it’s difficult to find a good landlord because finding a place is like very easy there is a lot of Facebook groups that you can find the good accommodation and everything but then it’s a matter of living and support when you are actually living in the place and this is hard to find in Vietnam like the good following support.
Where do you live right now in Saigon and what do you think about your neighbor?
I live in Thao Dien and the neighborhood is like expats neighborhood and it’s very quiet and I can leave my bike outside and nobody would steal it; it’s very close to the European kind of the way of life in Thao Dien, it’s not like the real Vietnam way of life but I like it somehow. But afterward I think I would rather prefer to be in Ben Thanh or something like this than in Thao Dien but it’s too late anyway…. Hahaa.
Can you tell us a little story about what has happened to you during your trip?
Ah…yes. I’ve been with my girlfriend to central park of Saigon and when we were heading back home, it started to rain like a very huge rain and we didn’t have any raincoat or anything else on my bike so we couldn’t take the ride back home and a Vietnamese guy just stop by and actually gave us his own raincoat to allow us to go back home. I think this is one of the crazy thing I’ve been seen here because in my own country that would never happened, never ever, nobody will give you the raincoat like this just to help you out. For the better, people in France would come cross your way and laugh at you because you don’t have anything to protect yourself from the rain anyway. Yeah in Vietnam, that would be my story for now because I’ve only been here two months.
Can you describe Vietnam in one word?
I would say DISCOVERY. Everything here is new for me, it’s like not everything but 90% of the whole things. Everything is so much different than in Europe. So I would say like a real culture shock but it’s in the good way like discovery something very great.
What will be your next destination?
My next destination is Poland for six months’ study just finish my Bachelor and then moving somewhere else but don’t know yet. Haha…but definitely move somewhere else after.
